Built in 1887 as the District 42 schoolhouse for Maple Grove, it served in that role for over half a century.
In those days, the area around Territorial Rd and hwy 121 was the town center, with a rail station, store, post office, and school. In the 1920’s the building was moved back (north) from the road and given a foundation and lower level/basement. When it was converted to a residence, it was given a lower ceiling, rooms and a kitchen, losing that one room schoolhouse feel. The Alano added a section on the back in the 1980’s.
